Michael Jackson Wrongful Death Suit Vs. AEG Can Proceed, Judge Rules

Katherine Jackson and family are pursuing a claim against concert promoter.By Gil Kaufman

Michael Jackson

When he was alive, Michael Jackson was forever embroiled in a series of complex and expensive-sounding lawsuits. But even in death, the late King of Pop is the subject of major legal action. None could potentially be bigger than the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the pop icon's mother, Katherine Jackson, against concert promotion giant AEG Live.
Reuters reported that a Los Angeles judge ruled on Wednesday that the civil lawsuit can go forward. It will proceed in parallel with the criminal case against Jackson's physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with Jackson's June 2009 death from an overdose of the powerful surgical anesthetic propofol. Murray is the only person charged in Jackson's death and he is currently awaiting trial in that matter.
Katherine Jackson's lawsuit — filed in September on behalf of her and Jackson's three young children — accuses AEG of being responsible for the medical decisions made by Murray, whose salary was paid by the touring company behind Jackson's attempted "This Is It" comeback shows in London. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Yvette Palazuelos denied a motion on Wednesday by AEG to dismiss Katherine Jackson's suit, but warned Jackson's attorneys that they would need to show evidence of "fraud, negligent infliction of emotional distress and civil conspiracy" in order to win the case.
The judge has already said she doubts they can prove the latter charge, because the suit does not detail any agreement between Murray and AEG to break the law in providing medical care to Jackson.
"If the object was to get him to rehearsals, I don't see that as a wrongful or illegal act," the judge said. A lawyer for AEG told the judge that the company could not have predicted beforehand that Murray's medical decisions would result in Jackson's death. Court papers also show that AEG "did not choose to hire Murray" and had only participated in negotiations to bring him on as an independent contractor. Michael, who had previously been treated by Murray in Las Vegas, was reportedly the one who suggested the cardiologist serve as his personal, on-call physician during the "This Is It" rehearsals and shows.
Katherine Jackson's attorney recently dropped choreographer Kenny Ortega from the lawsuit based on new information they received about his actions. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for March 22, just six days before Murray is due back in court for his trial. Jackson's father, Joseph, has twice attempted to file a wrongful death suit in the matter, though his is focused on Murray and the Las Vegas pharmacy that supplied the propofol, not AEG Live.

Usher's 'OMG' Gets Celeb Endorsement As Song Of The Year

'It's undeniable,' Travie McCoy says of the track that topped MTV News' Top 25 Songs of 2010.By Jocelyn Vena

2010 had some great jams, and all week, MTV News has been counting down some of its best. Everything from Lady Gaga's "Telephone" and Rick Ross' "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)" to two of Kanye's West's killer My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy tracks, "Power" and "Runaway," made the top 10. But it was Usher's bombastic party jam "OMG" that rose to the top and came in at #1.

So what made that song such a party anthem? "Oh my God! That's exactly what I would say! Oh my God!" Pauly D joked about 2010's top party jam. "Dope, dope track. I love playing it. The crowd goes crazy when I play it. Usher's the man!"
Travie McCoy added: "It's a great song. It's undeniable, you know what I mean?"
"Dancing With the Stars" pro Lacey Schwimmer admitted that "OMG" was the track that got dancers, both professional and amateur, on the dance floor. "You guys got a great dance anthem," she said. "So be prepared for people who do not know how to dance just going to town!"
Producer Alex Da Kid gave props to will.i.am for the song's epic beat. "I love 'OMG.' I think it's definitely something different for Usher," he said. "And it still has all the dance performance elements Usher's known for, but it's something slightly different and done in a will.i.am kind of way, and it's different and that's why it connected to so many different people. It's a great song."
Celebrities also weighed in on their favorite jams of 2010, choosing everything from Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" and Willow Smith's "Whip My Hair" to B.o.B and Hayley Williams' "Airplanes."
Why did you love "OMG" in 2010? Tell us in the comments!

Britney Spears' Second 'Hold It Against Me' Teaser Surfaces

'If I said you have to wait 12 more days, would you hold it against me?' pop star tweets about new clip.By Mawuse Ziegbe

The countdown to Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" video continues.
On Saturday (February 5), just a day after the pop megastar released a five-second clip of the forthcoming visual to her synthy dance hit, Spears tweeted another seconds-long teaser marking 12 days until fans can check out the entire video.
The latest clip is packed with more color than her first teaser, with the title "Hold It Against Me" lit up in neon yellow, green and pink hues. The wreath of microphones fans caught of glimpse of a few weeks ago when Spears tweeted a picture from the set is back, and this time instead of seductively gazing over her shoulder through the mics, the pop diva looks straight ahead as a crew member slams a clapperboard in front of her face. The superstar stares directly into the camera as she sports a sparkly red top, bling-laden choker and dark eyeliner with platinum blonde curls framing her face.
"If I said you have to wait 12 more days, would you hold it against me?" Spears wrote when she tweeted the video. The pop starlet has promised a daily sneak peak at the highly anticipated clip until the entire visual drops in two weeks.
Britney may be rationing out brief looks of the lead video from her Femme Fatale album, but the project's director Jonas Åkerlund said the multiplatinum songstress didn't hold back when it came to turning out a show-stopping performance on set.
"[Britney's] been great throughout the entire process. At the end of the shoot I got the warmest hug I ever got from an artist, and I look forward to hugging her again very soon!" Åkerlund said statement recently. He added, "I've been around long enough to know when an artist gives it their all, and to me it doesn't get better than this. This video is gonna be f---ing awesome. It's all Britney."
What do you think the rest of Britney's video will look like? Sound off in the comments!

Lady Gaga's Vogue Cover Leaks Online

Magazine rep confirms that the image circulating on the Internet is actual cover.By Jocelyn Vena

Lady Gaga is set to be the cover girl for the March issue of Vogue, and her cover photo has leaked online.
Gaga sports a hot-pink wig in the photo, her haircut reminiscent of the cropped cut she wore in her "Alejandro" video. She's draped in a white Grecian-style gown, with her hands at her waist. The headline fittingly reads "Born This Way," as shown on Styleite.com.
According to Gaga Daily, the photos for the issue were shot in November at the Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, by legendary fashion photographer Mario Testino.
A rep for Vogue confirmed to MTV News that the leaked image is authentic and that an official version should be released next week.
Gaga's bestie Perez Hilton wrote, "Have you seen the AMAZING photo of my wifey on the new issue of American Vogue??? Epic!" later adding, "I especially LOVE the body language of the #Vogue cover. It pays homage to the iconic Gaga poses of back in 2008! ..."
Perez also reported that Gaga is set to appear on the "Tonight Show With Jay Leno" on February 14. The Valentine's Day appearance comes one day after the Grammys, where she is set to debut her Born This Way single of the same name.
Earlier this week, Gaga took to Twitter to share with her fans her anticipation for finally debuting the track. "So many nights I've wept, too many thoughts to say. But now it's less than 12 days left, till I was Born This Way. X Mother Monster," she tweeted on Tuesday.
While little is known about what the title song will sound like, Perez did share with MTV News that it will be epic. "Fans can expect all the hype to be true with 'Born This Way' and with the album," he said. "And you know what? It is a very gay song — unapologetically, gay-in-your-face gay — but it's also a universal song that can relate to everyone," Hilton explained. "To all of us outsiders, to all of us freaks, to all of us who feel different. And the music is undeniable. It sounds like a smash. It is a smash. It is one of the best songs of Gaga's career."

Lady Gaga Thanks Fans For 'Edge Of Glory' Twitter Trend

The pop star gives props to her 'sneakymonsters' for discussing what is believed to be the title of one of her Born This Way songs.By Jocelyn Vena

With Lady Gaga fans eagerly awaiting the release of Born This Way's first single, which is expected to be the album's title track, details about the rest of the recording are slowly emerging. Late Tuesday, Lady Gaga tweeted to thank her fans for making "Edge of Glory" a Twitter-trending topic. "Edge of Glory" is expected to be one of the track titles on the album.
"Ok. Firstly, yes I love Nutella (with Banana+Wonderbread) who doesn't?" Mother Monster wrote. "Secondly, I can't believe Edge of Glory was trending, sneakymonsters! Thirdly, I need a beer with my name on it cause the last 72hrs gave me a creative hangover."
Gaga apparently has been making references to the song as far back as September, when she tweeted, "I'm on the edge of glory, and I'm counting on a moment of truth. I'm on the edge of glory, and I'm counting on a moment with you."
Meanwhile, her best friends, New York band Semi Precious Weapons, also have been hinting at what fans might expect from Born This Way, which is set for release in May. "Just as she described it. It's amazing, epic," Weapons frontman Justin Tranter explained in a recent Q&A. "The most incredible album I've ever heard."
In addition, Gaga producer RedOne recently put in his two cents about the singer's new material, saying that her forthcoming single was "so beautiful.
Last week, a track off the album that Gaga remixed accompanied a short film by fashion photographer Mariano Vivanco that was shown at a Mugler fashion show in Paris. Discussing the tune, Vivanco said Mugler creative director and Gaga stylist Nicola Formichetti had found "a really articulate way" to describe it — " 'It's techno meets Whitney Houston, in a really good way.' "

Louis Theroux: 'I'm not that comfortable doing polemic'

His ability to make the subjects of his documentaries reveal how strange they are has made his name. But Louis Theroux says he never sets out to turn someone overWhat is it about Louis Theroux that makes people want to show him how odd they are? For more than a decade now, ever since Jimmy Savile confided on camera that he used to beat people up and lock them in a basement during his career as a nightclub manager, Theroux's subjects have been sharing their strangeness with him. But I've never been able to work out why. Critics have accused the presenter of tricking interviewees by pretending to be a bumbling fool ? a faux naif ? yet within minutes of meeting him, I think I see the real reason why his subjects reveal all. I don't know him at all, but would quite happily tell him anything. For a big man ? well over 6ft ? he is remarkably gentle in his bearing, but it's his eyes that invite confidence, for he squints with an expression of the most profound compassion and concern. If I didn't know what he did for a living, I'd guess he was a therapist, because it's the expression a good shrink would wear while a client recalled some terrible trauma. In his forgiving gaze, it's impossible to believe that anything you say could ever cause offence or shock ? and so, of course, people come out with all sorts, forgetting that viewers may be rather more judgmental than Theroux.Because he first became famous for making films about somewhat sensational subjects ? the sex industry, UFO abductees and the like ? there has often been a suspicion that this slightly unworldly character we see on our screens must be a clever comic creation. How could a first-class history graduate from Oxford really be so non-judgmental? His latest film follows ultra Zionist settlers on the West Bank ? hardly an unreported story, but one he says he came to with a genuinely open mind. Did he really not have a view about them before embarking on the film?"Not really, no. I just thought, this is a community of settlers who live quite a suburban life, many of whom are emigre Americans, and it struck me as both very relatable, in terms of the life they lead, and at the same time utterly surreal, in terms of the extremism of their beliefs and the implications of their beliefs for people on the ground."And by the end? "Well, based on what I saw, their presence is, to my mind, highly morally questionable. By the end of it I was more shocked. But also, I'm aware," and he sighs slightly apologetically, "that I don't feel I line up comfortably with this sort of knee-jerk leftwing critique of ? I know that's very loaded," he adds quickly, "like I'm not knee-jerk ? but for example, I thought a lot about nice Israelis I'd met, and about the dilemmas of being an Israeli, and the unquestionable fact that large portions of the Palestinian community would like to see Israel wiped off the map. So it's easy to be glib on one side or the other, and I try to resist that."In the film he asks a settler if he considers himself equal to Palestinians, and the bald reply ? "No" ? is all the more arresting in the context of a film that doesn't automatically vilify the settlers, but instead shows the bizarre and heartbreaking consequences of their conviction of divine entitlement to the land. Some viewers may wish that Theroux was more aggressively confrontational, but he says mildly, "I'm not that comfortable doing polemic or being strident. It's not me. I think what I'm good at is getting to know people, and trying to build a relationship over a few weeks and trying to get to the truth." Did he like the settlers? "I did quite. But my films are about attempting to square the fact that it may be someone you like, but it's also someone doing something that may be morally questionable. That's the whole thing ? that's what I do. That's my job."His job has evolved over the years, though, into something very different from Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends, his first series of documentaries that followed obscure, mostly American subcultures such as porn stars, swingers and survivalists. A series of celebrity documentaries followed, featuring Neil and Christine Hamilton, Max Clifford, Keith Harris and other names from that sub-strata of fame occupied by characters who could most charitably be described as colourful. In recent years, however, his subject matter has become less comical, ranging from lifers in San Quentin jail and gang bosses in Lagos to crystal meth addicts in California and crime fighters in Johannesburg. At a time when most television journalism is moving in the opposite direction, I wonder why he decided to move away from amusingly wacky celebrities and crazies, towards more meaningful and mature films."I think there were a few things going on. One was that after the celebrity stories, there's a sense in which ? well it's just not a very nice way of working, to be honest. It's quite uncomfortable having your access being subject to the whim of one person, and in a sense that emotional and journalistic contract I had with the subject was quite complicated. It was a warts-and-all contract that depended on prolonged access in which they had no editorial control ? but they controlled the access. They were surrendering a lot, so it was difficult to go through that with equanimity and tranquillity."What does he mean? "Well, I really do like to be open, I don't like that feeling of holding back difficult questions. I feel like the more I can be transparent in the way I approach a story, the more it makes a satisfying programme. For example, in the film I made about Nazis, this guy said, 'I think black people look like monkeys', and I said, 'Do you think you're better looking than Denzil Washington?'. He said, 'I think I'm a lot better looking.' I said, 'I think you're deluded.' And it was really satisfying to be able to just say that."That's somewhat ironic, I say, because a common critique of Theroux's work is that he doesn't do enough of that. "I know," he agrees. Does it annoy him? "No, I think they're just reacting to my earlier work, Weird Weekends, which hinged on me going, 'Oh look! I'm going to explore this world, it's going to be great being a porn star!' It was a very different tone."He feels more comfortable now, he says, about challenging his subjects. "I used to be very timid, and I feel as though I'm quite robust now when I talk to people. I never misrepresent my position ? you've got to be strong enough to make the argument and marshal the case. I don't know if other people get that, though." He thinks it might be his politeness that gets mistaken for complicity, and I suspect he may be right, for even off-camera he has a kind of courtesy that can come across as intellectual timidity. And he has ? or at least, used to have ? an unusually exaggerated sense of responsibility towards his subjects, so much so that in 2005 he revisited many of them to write a book, The Call of the Weird, examining his relationships with them. "Did they know what kind of programme I was making? Did they think we were going to be friends? That we would keep in touch? But when I went back I realised I cared more about those questions than they did. I realised that sense of obligation was really in my own head ? they didn't think about it."He offers the admission rather ruefully, but it was another one he made when the book was published that I found more surprising, so I quote it to him. "When I spent more time with the people," he said at the time, "I realised that whatever was originally weird and funny about them turned out to spring from some quality of being damaged that wasn't funny at all. That was a bit sad. I didn't notice that the first time around." Was it really not apparent to him that militia men, say, or porn stars, might be damaged?"Yeah," he giggles softly. "I probably should have realised a bit sooner. If I can spin it in a positive way, though, I tend to take people at their own word. I don't tend to quickly think, oh well you've obviously had a nervous breakdown or dealt with some trauma or escaped something. Actually, it's weird, but one of the things I became aware of is that it's really valid to look at some things just on the surface, as well as in depth. Some of those things are just enjoyable, because they do skate a bit on the surface, and it's about having fun. The people enjoy proselytising for being militia men or swingers, and I sort of enjoy hearing it, and whatever brought them to that can remain tacit. Maybe it's not that important. I'm basically making a case for superficiality, I think."If there is a weakness in his work, it is arguably this, for he doesn't explore how his subjects come to hold the views they do. And yet, he still manages to make many of them more sympathetic ? or at least engagingly human ? than most documentary-makers would, a feat made all the more unusual for not being achieved through a conventionally therapeutic route. Does he feel responsible for how his subjects come across?"Yes, sometimes you have to protect the contributors a little bit. There is a slightly greedy aspect in journalism where you think I'm entitled to everything, and anything they say in an unguarded way is just grist to my mill and fair game. And I think there are limits. You don't stop being a human being when you start being a journalist."He doesn't altogether rule out revisiting the genre of the celebrity profile documentary at some point, and he has Heather Mills in his sights. It's not hard to see why from Theroux's point of view ? but not so easy to see what could possibly be in it for her."Well, it's interesting. Some people are interested in raising their profile, some are interested in raising the profile of a project ? in her case I think it's landmines and vegetarianism ? and some people just want to get their point across. What's in it for her is that her public image could really use some freshening up. Don't you think?" I've got a feeling, I say, that it could only make matters worse for her."Really?" he says, pulling a classic Theroux face of puzzlement, and just for once I'm not convinced he's being entirely truthful. "I think actually it might make it better."But that, I laugh, is because he wants it to happen! I imagine most people reading this will think Mills is bananas, and if she spends time with Theroux she's won't look any less bananas. So we're back to this question of disingenuity; he can't seriously believe her profile would be improved, can he? "I said it could use some freshening up," he smiles, and we both laugh. I don't see, I tell him, how a documentary could have a successful outcome for her."You might be right," he concedes. "And that would weigh against doing it." Seriously? "Yeah, it really would." So if he can't see any plausible possibility of a film being of some benefit to a subject, he wouldn't want to make it? "Oh, absolutely. Definitely. What, to go in there thinking I'm going to turn someone over?" He looks mildly appalled. "Well, that's bad faith, isn't it?"I wouldn't be surprised if he has become more concerned with the ethics of documentary journalism as he has grown older. The son of the travel writer Paul Theroux, and younger brother of the novelist Marcel, he was only 22 when he began working for Michael Moore on an American documentary series, and was still in his mid-20s when the BBC commissioned his first series of Weird Weekends. Growing up in his family, "There was a kind of snobbery about books being better than everything; books were considered the acme of everything the human mind has to offer," and he has described his family as competitive, so he must have felt some pressure to make a quick success of his TV career. But now arguably the most famous member of his family, at 40 he can probably afford to approach his work with more gravitas. He lives with his partner Nancy Strang, a TV director, and their two young sons, and says that one of the surprises of fatherhood has been the requirement to exercise authority. "I think I've drifted through life not having to have any position of real authority, so to have to be the disciplinarian is quite different for me." They live in the notoriously unlovely north London neighbourhood of Harlesden, and he admits a little shamefacedly that another change brought about by parenthood has been "really bourgeois concerns about the quality of your neighbourhood. Quality-of-life issues, littering, noise, that sort of thing." Harlesden is not exactly overpopulated by celebrities, though, and "more by accident than design" he has become its unofficial famous face, so it would feel a bit of betrayal to him to move somewhere leafier."There is an element of that," he grins. "But I'm slightly embarrassed about it. I don't think you should take those responsibilities too seriously, because that way madness lies. Like the fate of a London suburb hinges on my house choices." He raises his eyebrows in self-mocking horror, and laughs at himself. "I mean, I don't think so."Louis Theroux ?

Beyonce, Leonardo DiCaprio Lead Flurry Of Movie Remakes

Russell Brand, Willow Smith, Jonah Hill are just a few stars looking to revamp film and TV classics like 'Arthur', 'Annie' and '21 Jump Street.'By Terri Schwartz

What do Willow Smith and Beyoncé have in common with Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill and Kenny Wormald? They're all starring (or in talks to star) in the latest round of remakes of beloved films and TV shows coming down the pike.
On Thursday, news broke that Beyoncé would be starring in a Clint Eastwood-directed remake of the 1976 Barbra Streisand classic "A Star Is Born" (which was a remake of a 1954 movie that remade a 1937 film). In the meantime, Will Smith is reportedly petitioning Sony to remake "Annie" (the 1982 movie and 1977 musical) starring his 10-year-old daughter, Willow, best known for whipping her hair.
In October it was announced that Leonardo DiCaprio and best bud Tobey Maguire would be starring in Baz Luhrmann's 3-D retelling of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel "The Great Gatsby," with Carey Mulligan joining as Daisy Buchanan.
Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have been working on bringing the '80s Johnny Depp-starring television series "21 Jump Street" to the big screen since 2008, and they might even get Depp to cameo in it in time for the film's March 16, 2012, release date.
And let's not forget the long hunt for a Ren McCormack (the character Kevin Bacon made famous in 1984), after Zac Efron and Chace Crawford dropped out of the planned "Footloose" remake that finally landed dancer Kenny Wormald the role of his life.
Then there's "Arthur," the Russell Brand-starring remake of the 1981 screwball comedy about a happily drunk millionaire who risks everything for love. The film has tapped everyone from Helen Mirren to Greta Gerwig and Nick Nolte.
Two recently announced remakes are "Lethal Weapon" and "The Wizard of Oz," which are still in early development and without stars attached. Warner Bros. announced their plans to reboot the Mel Gibson-starring franchise on Thursday and tapped writer Will Beall to pen the script with completely new characters. And director Robert Zemeckis announced back in November that he planned on remaking the 1939 Technicolor classic using the script from the original film, with Warner Bros. hoping Robert Downey Jr. will play Oz.
Just this past year, films from "Clash of the Titans" to "The Karate Kid" to "A Nightmare on Elm Street" were remade for the big screen and were well-received by audiences. "Alice in Wonderland" and "Clash of the Titans" went on to become two of the top 10 highest-grossing films of 2010, while "Piranha 3D" and "The A-Team" also went on to strong successes, proving that there definitely is a market for these kinds of remakes.

Pity poor Petra Ecclestone

Even Daddy's fortune couldn't save the Formula One heiress from being bullied at schoolLook at the news: terrorism, war, recession, cuts, "bunga-bunga" parties. What the world needs is an inspirational saga from which we can all draw comfort in these dark days. Happily, there's one on offer in this month's Grazia, courtesy of a three-page feature on the "seemingly unspoiled" 22-year-old Petra Ecclestone, and her triumph over adversity, armed only with pluck, determination and her father's estimated fortune of 1.466bn.During this, the Formula One heiress categorically sets herself apart from the massed ranks of vacuous trustafarians by announcing that she had to buy a 56m Grade II-listed mansion in Chelsea because: "I need a garden for my dogs and there aren't many properties in Chelsea or Belgravia with a private garden." Luckily for Ecclestone: "My dad can afford to fund all this."Alas, there are dark clouds on the horizon of her apparently charmed life. The renovation of the mansion is set to take two years, during which time she'll be forced to live in her 25m seven-bedroom mansion in Chelsea. Clearly a lesser soul would buckle under the stress, but they haven't been hardened by the seemingly unspoilt Petra Ecclestone's tough upbringing. She was, she admits, subjected to a campaign of bullying at school. "They'd refuse to let me play hopscotch because my shoes were from Milan, instead of Russell & Bromley," she remembers. Before anybody asks some pressing questions (most notably, what kind of weird-ass school was this where children of hopscotch-playing age were apparently able to differentiate between shoes from Russell & Bromley and shoes from Milan?), she adds: "but while it made it harder to trust people, I think it's probably made me stronger."Lost in Showbiz doesn't doubt that it has. It implores: seemingly unspoilt Petra Ecclestone! Why not take your tale of overcoming the hopscotch shoe-bullies around the failing schools of Britain? Show those kids what can be achieved simply with inner strength and the 24th richest man in Britain for a father. Britney Spears Drops 'Hold It Against Me' Video Preview

'14 days, 14 teasers, 1 World Premiere of #HIAM,' Brit promises in a tweet implying clip will debut in two weeks.By Jocelyn Vena

For fans counting down the days until Britney Spears debuts her "Hold It Against Me" video, the pop star premiered an otherworldly clip on Friday (February 4) that gives them a taste of what to expect.
In the teaser, Brit also reveals that the video is set to drop on or about February 18 with a panel that reads "13 days to go." "Hold It Against Me" is the lead single from her March release, Femme Fatale.
On Friday, Spears about the video, "14 days, 14 teasers, 1 World Premiere of #HIAM --Britney." She then included a link to the (very short) five-second mini tease of the Jonas Akerlund-directed video.
Judging from those few seconds, though, the director seems to be bringing Britney into his dark world. Dressed in a flowing white gown, the singer appears surrounded by TV screens as a light and camera are pointed at her face. The preview ends with the message "Britney Spears ... 13 days to go."
Brian Friedman, who choreographed the video, recently told MTV News that this one pushes all boundaries. "Artistically, this video I think surpasses a lot of her other videos," he teased.
"So many of her videos are iconic, though. You look at 'Toxic' and you look at 'Slave,' even 'Oops ... I Did It Again': People are gonna remember those videos forever. [In] '... Baby One More Time,' she made school-girl outfits relevant and so popular. This video is artistically a masterpiece, and I don't think that Britney has pushed the envelope in this way ever in any of her videos."
Friedman credited Akerlund's keen eye for unexpected visuals and epic scale. "Anything that he does is magical," he said. "His eye for art is insane, so I was excited to work with someone who loves art so much and it's not just a job, it's not technical; it really is a string aesthetic to what he does."
The teaser video dropped a day after Spears and her camp thanked fans for helping to keep the album title a trending topic on Twitter. "Just heard FEMME FATALE has been trending for almost 2 days. I LIVE for and LOVE you all!" she wrote. "Thank U! Thank U! Thank U!"

Beyonce Jokes She's Been Pregnant With Concert Special

'I was pregnant with this DVD,' she laughs to MTV News as 'I Am ... World Tour' is set to air Thanksgiving Day on ABC.By Jocelyn Vena

Beyoncé never really seems to slow down, so when the time came to choose a director for her concert special DVD "I Am ... World Tour," the singer decided to take on those duties too. It's an accomplishment the singer jokes may have sparked those pregnancy rumors.
"I was pregnant with this DVD, yes!" she joked to MTV News.

The DVD hits stores on November 30, but fans can catch the 90-minute "I Am ... World Tour" TV special when it airs on ABC Thanksgiving night at 9:30 p.m. ET. Beyoncé opened up about what it was like to sit in the director's chair.
"Well, I've done some co-directing for music videos [but] this was definitely a big step for me, and I'm so thrilled," she said at the New York City screening for the flick.
Beyoncé said she was completely hands-on, deciding which moments made the final cut and which ones wound up on the cutting-room floor. "It was hard work," she said. "I learned so much. I have a new respect for directors and I think I would like to do more of it."
Her parents, Mathew and Tina Knowles, who also attended the screening over the weekend, said the film gives B the recognition she deserves after years of collaborating on many of her own videos.
"I'm really excited about this because Beyoncé has been making little short films and really helping to direct her videos," Tina told us. "So it's nice that she'll get credit for doing something that she really loves doing and that she's very talented at."
Dad Mathew recalled all of the effort his superstar daughter put into the special. "I'm so proud," he said. "I had an opportunity [to see the film], I've been to Houston with a screening; I've been to Bentonville, [Arkansas], with a screening, and to see the excitement from the audience, what an incredible job Beyoncé did as a director in the editing, I'm just so proud. Hopefully, all the fans go out and get the DVD and soundtrack and look at that ABC special coming on Thanksgiving."

Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray To Be Arraigned

Murray to head to trial in death of Jackson following Tuesday hearing.By Gil Kaufman

Cardiologist Dr. Conrad Murray, the only person charged in the June 2009 death of Michael Jackson, will be arraigned on Tuesday morning (January 25) on an involuntary manslaughter charge. Murray, who was serving as the 50-year-old pop icon's personal physician at the time, is expected to plead not guilty in the case.
According to CNN, the hearing in front of Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor, is only slated to last a few minutes. While Murray has the right to demand a trial within 60 days, it is not expected that a date will be set for one on Tuesday.
After more than a week of testimony, Pastor ruled during a preliminary hearing in early January that there was enough evidence to bring Murray's case to trial. In the meantime, Murray remains free on $75,000 bond, but Pastor blocked the doctor from using his California medical license until the trial is completed.
"Michael is not with us today because of an utterly inept, incompetent, reckless doctor — the defendant Conrad Murray," Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney David Walgren said in his final arguments in the preliminary hearing, where a series of witnesses recounted Murray's actions during the minutes and hours before and after Jackson's death. The King of Pop died as a result of what the Los Angeles County coroner's office called acute propofol poisoning, a reference to a powerful surgical anesthetic that the singer reportedly requested as a sleep aid to combat chronic insomnia.
While prosecutors appear to be building a case that Murray acted recklessly in attending to Jackson in the singer's final hours, CNN reported that the doctor's lawyers appeared satisfied with the results of the preliminary hearing thanks to some testimony they got from prosecution witnesses that might help raise some reasonable doubt about their client's guilt at trial.
"I think the prosecution is going to change their tactics in this case," defense lawyer J. Michael Flanagan said after the preliminary hearing. "It's not the same as what they gave in opening statements."
The defense reportedly is set to argue that it was Jackson himself who administered the final, fatal dose of propofol after waking in a panic from a fitful night of sleep. One of the prosecution's expert witnesses in the case admitted under cross-examination that he made a math mistake and that the recalculation supports the defense theory that Jackson may have given himself the dose of propofol that killed him.
CNN reported that Dr. Richard Ruffalo, an anesthesiologist hired by the prosecution, was the last witness to take the stand and his admission about making a mistake on the calculation of the level of propofol in Jackson's stomach fluid reportedly elicited gasps from the members of Jackson's family who were sitting in the hearing room.
Murray's lawyers have suggested that a frustrated Jackson may have poured the anesthetic — which is administered intravenously — into his juice bottle while the doctor was out of his bedroom.
"Now it doesn't make sense unless he ingested it orally in a huge amount," Ruffalo testified. The anesthesiologist added that Murray could still be at fault for leaving dangerous drugs near a patient who was allegedly addicted to sedatives and sleep aids.
"It's like leaving a syringe next to a heroin addict," Ruffalo stated.
"If he's not getting what he wants, when you leave the room he might reach for it himself ... Either way, it doesn't matter. He abandoned his patient and didn't resuscitate appropriately." Ruffalo said Murray should have anticipated that Jackson, who had previously asked to inject himself with the drug, might potentially administer it to himself. "He gets upset if he doesn't get his milk," he said, explaining that Jackson often referred to propofol as his "milk."
In addition, the pathologist who conducted Jackson's autopsy acknowledged it was possible, though improbable, that the singer gave himself the fatal propofol dose. Speaking to police two days after Jackson's death, Murray told investigators that a sleepless Jackson had begged him for more propofol on the day he died. The King of Pop was in the midst of a grueling series of rehearsals for his planned "This Is It" comeback shows at London's O2 Arena at the time of his death.
A civil lawsuit filed last year by Jackson's mother against the producer of the concerts, AEG Live, alleged that the company had warned the entertainer several weeks before he died that if he missed any more rehearsals they were going to "pull the plug" on the gigs, which the cash-strapped Jackson was depending on to revive his stalled career.
